Chef Dina Altieri
School of Culinary Arts
Chef Altieri is certified with the American Culinary Federation as an Executive Chef and Culinary Educator. She has been a master class presenter for Foodservice Educators Network International, contributing writer for Chef Educator Today magazine, and a featured chef in "A Woman’s Place is in the Kitchen" and "In Mother’s Kitchen" by Ann Cooper. She was also named the ACF National Chef Educator of the Year in 2011. Altieri is the coach of Kendall's American Culinary Federation Baron H. Galand Culinary Knowledge Bowl team, leading them to multiple national championships.
School of Hospitality Management
Deborah Popely has more than 25 years of experience as an event planner and meeting facilitator, and more than 10 years of experience as a sustainability consultant and educator. She has written extensively on green events and related topics, and has served as a presenter and keynote speaker for local, regional and national industry organizations. Deborah is a key contributor to the sustainability mission at Kendall College.
International School of Business
John Frech has over 30 years of banking and auditing experience. He currently teaches Masters level accounting, as well as undergraduate finance, accounting, economics and strategy. John was named Outstanding Faculty of the Year in 2011 and nominated for a Laureate GPS Award in 2013 for his continuous collaboration among his peers.
Dr. Maria Montalvo
English Language Institute
Dr. Montalvo comes to Kendall College’s Education program as Professor of Education and Director of Education Grants after many years of experience in the field and a vast assortment of experiences. She has been involved in the public and private sectors of Pre-Kindergarten to Graduate School education which have afforded her opportunities to serve as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, bilingual program specialist, district curriculum coordinator, and clinical supervisor. She has written and managed grants for several school districts and IHEs and has also supervised pre-service teachers in the field. Most recently, she served as Interim Dean of Education and as Faculty Chair at Colorado Technical University.
Kendall has three pastry kitchens and a chocolate and sugar kitchen, enabling students to gain hands-on mixing, shaping and baking techniques while building on their creative design capabilities.
The Dining Room

The fine dining restaurant at Kendall is an extraordinary working classroom that provides advanced student chefs the opportunity to gain real-world experience in a professionally-run, fine dining atmosphere under supervision of Kendall's seasoned faculty. The Dining Room at Kendall College seats up to 200 guests, is Michelin-Guide Recommended and features majestic views of downtown Chicago, IL.
The Daily Grind
Kendall's coffee shop is located in the newly renovated lobby and is run by students. The Daily Grind serves specialty coffees and pastries made by our very own Baking and Pastry students.
Our large auditorium features a large demo kitchen as well as a projector with recording cameras. We use this space for large classes and for events such as capstone presentations, competitions and award ceremonies. Guests can also rent this room for demos and meetings.
Our Skyline Room features loft space for events such as weddings, banquets, business meetings and social events. Hospitality students have the the opportunity to interview and work for our events team. Positions for students include banquet captain, marketing assistant, servers, bartenders and culinary assistants. You will work in one of the many events spaces we have on campus, including the the Skyline Room, Wine Room and The Riverwalk.
