Kendall students are getting a closer look at the meeting planning industry since they launched the first Meeting Planning International (MPI) college chapter in Illinois this summer. This organization gives participating students an ideal opportunity for professional networking and the opportunity to truly understand the breadth and depth of the meeting planning industry beyond the classroom. It’s really a win-win for all involved. “Hopefully it will give these students in the School of Hospitality Management additional access to internships and jobs,” says Sue Tinnish, Associate Professor in the School of Hospitality Management and the chapter sponsor. “It also serves the strategic initiative of MPI to get students and faculty more involved in the organization. The Chicago Chapter of MPI is the largest chapter in the world. They have been very supportive and recognize that students are the future of the industry.”

“We anticipate strong continued student participation in the MPI Chapter here at Kendall,” said Jeffrey Catrett, Dean of Kendall’s School of Hospitality Management. “We have seen an increased interest in the events management concentration by prospective students.” According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of meeting and convention planners is expected to grow 20% by 2016.
