More than 280 Spring 2013 graduates and 450 students overall from Spring and previous quarters walked in commencement to shake the hands of their Deans and flip their tassel from one side of their mortar board to the other. Students received the following degrees:

B.A. in Business
B.A. Culinary Arts
A.A.S. Culinary Arts
A.A.S. Baking and Pastry
B.A. in Early Childhood Education
B.A. in Hospitality Management

President Emily Williams Knight’s remarks touched on her pride for the graduating class, the commencement theme of “Own it!” as well as an important word and concept she wanted to share with the graduating class: courage.

“Each year I find great excitement in the commencement planning process. Most fun is the selection of the theme and the commencement speaker. This year it was quite easy,” said President Williams Knight. “Own it! Fit this year’s group of graduates. This group of students is ready to make their mark on the world.”  Watch her full address below.

Don Welsh, CEO of Choose Chicago, was chosen as the graduation speaker. “This will be as much fatherly advice and business advice as I can fit into a few minutes,” Mr. Welsh said. “My first recommendation: use today as the launching pad for your future.”
